Atelier 2 :

Atelier 2 — BREATH, CORE & BALANCE

Yoga Retreat Schedule – Afternoon Workshops

Each afternoon will be dedicated to a themed workshop

Workshop 1:

Workshop 1 — BACKBENDING

Mobility, Strength & Intelligence of the Spine
Approximately 2.5 hours

This workshop is dedicated to exploring spinal mobility and strength through backbending, following the methodology we learned from our teacher Vinay Kumar during our training in India.

The aim is not simply to achieve deeper backbends, but to develop strength, flexibility, awareness, and control, building a conscious, safe, and sustainable practice over time.

Throughout the session, we will explore the fundamental principles that allow the spine to move harmoniously, while balancing mobility and stability. The focus will be on understanding how the body works and developing an intelligent approach to backbending that can be adapted to each practitioner’s individual needs.

This workshop is open to all levels and is designed for practitioners who wish to deepen their understanding of movement and gain practical tools for developing their own independent practice.

Objectives of the two workshops

  • Understand the biomechanics of the spine in backbending.
  • Improve joint mobility without compromising stability.
  • Develop strength and control in the muscles supporting the spine.
  • Progressively open the shoulders, chest, and hips.
  • Learn how to activate the core to support and stabilize movement.
  • Develop greater awareness of the breath as a support during backbending.
  • Explore Pranayama as a tool for presence, stability, and energy.
  • Develop greater body awareness and intelligent movement.

Workshop 2:

Workshop 2 — BREATH, CORE & BALANCE

Breath, Core Strength & Stability
Approximately 2.5 hours

This workshop explores the foundations of Ashtanga practice, with a particular focus on breath, core activation, Mula Bandha, strength, and stability.

Through specific strengthening exercises, we will work on improving stability while maintaining and developing our range of motion. We will build a strong foundation from which to approach transitions, inversions, and arm balances in a safe, conscious, and progressive way.

The breath will be explored as an essential tool for awareness, stability, focus, and control, both within the practice and beyond.

This workshop is open to all levels and aims to provide practitioners with practical tools to better understand their body and develop a more conscious and independent practice.
